Tally Privacy Policy
Last updated September 2, 2026
Tally is made by Strawberry Digital LLC, an independent studio in Tampa, Florida. Tally reads photographs of your receipts so you can keep a record of what you bought and what it cost. Receipts are personal, so this policy is written to be read rather than skimmed past.
The short version
- We do not sell or share your personal information — not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to market research companies.
- There are no advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or tracking technologies in Tally.
- Your receipt images are sent to one AI provider so their text can be read, and nowhere else.
- A person may read a receipt you submit if the automatic reading is not confident.
- You can delete your account, and everything personal in it, from inside the app.
What we collect
- Your email address. Tally signs you in with a link sent to your email; there is no password to store.
- Photographs of receipts you scan, stored privately.
- What the receipt says — merchant, purchase date, total, and the individual line items as printed on the receipt.
- Your points record — the transactions that make up your balance.
- A notification token, only if you allow notifications, so we can tell you when a receipt has been processed.
We do not ask for your name, address, phone number, or payment details, and Tally does not collect your location.
Why we collect it
To read your receipts and show them back to you, to keep your points record, to send you the notifications you asked for, and to prevent the same receipt being submitted twice. That is the whole list. We do not use your receipts to build advertising profiles, and we do not analyse them for anyone else's benefit.
Who else touches your data
Three service providers process data on our behalf, and no one else:
- Supabase — hosts the database, the receipt images, and the sign-in system.
- Anthropic — when you submit a receipt, the image is sent to Anthropic's API so the printed text can be read and turned into line items. It is sent for that purpose only.
- Apple — delivers push notifications, if you have enabled them.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. Beyond that, nothing leaves.
A person may read your receipt
When the automatic reading is not confident about a receipt, it goes to a review queue so a person at Strawberry Digital can look at it and decide. That means a human being may see the image and the items on a receipt you submit. We think you should know that plainly rather than find it in a definition.
How long we keep it
Your receipts, their images, their line items, and your profile are kept for as long as your account exists. Delete your account and they are permanently deleted.
Anonymised records of points transactions are kept afterwards for accounting. Once your account is deleted, those records contain no information that identifies you — no email, no receipt, no image. They are numbers with nobody attached.
Your choices
- Delete everything. In the app: Settings → Delete my account. It is immediate and permanent.
- Turn off notifications in iOS Settings, or by signing out.
- Ask for a copy of what we hold about you by emailing us.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your personal information, including to know what is held, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of — and the delete option above satisfies the rest. Email us and we will honour any such request.
Children
Tally is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Receipt images are stored in private storage that is not publicly readable. Access to your data is restricted at the database level so that one account cannot read another account's receipts. No system is perfect, but we do not store anything we do not need, which is the most effective protection available.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that materially affects how your information is used, we will update the date above and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
